“Miscarriage” and “White Shoelaces” are choreopoems by Indira Allegra that were shared at the virtual event “To Turn the World Around”: For Audre Lorde and Pat Parker. Audio description produced by Social Audio Description Collective, Writer, Kensuke Nakamura. Script editor, Nefertiti Matos Olivares. Narrator, Barbara Faison.

Miscarriage

In this choreopoem, the black dancer wears a tight black long sleeve
top and loose flowy pants. Their hair is a platinum blonde pixie cut
with dark roots and bangs that cover their eyebrows.
They perform in a large white room with a light wood floor.

They repeatedly fling their arms up and around with a stoic face.

In the now darkened room, they lay on the floor, their silhouette
reflected in the smooth floor.

With closed eyes, they slowly roll Their neck around.

They convulse rhythmically, their tongue out and eyes rolled back.
They rise as their chest and hair
bounce faster and faster.

Their arms outstretched…
They sway side to side.

The image fades to black.

White Shoelaces

In this choreopoem, the black dancer wears a tight black long sleeve
top and loose flowy pants. Their hair is a platinum blonde pixie cut.
They perform in a large white sunlit
room with a light wood floor. From the ground, we see them across the
room, performing against the wall.

(BRISK) They begin seated and
leaning back on their arms.

(BRISK) They move their body
through various poses to kneel.

(BRISK) They wave their hand away
from their face.

(BRISK) They sit facing the wall.

(BRISK) Their arms spread out to the side.

(BRISK) Their arms stop overhead.

(BRISK) Curled up face down, they
extend an arm and leg to form a crescent.

(BRISK) They lay back and arc their right arm over their body.

(BRISK) They stride backwards and bow.

(BRISK) They stride backwards.

(BRISK) They bow and
reach toward the sky.
